I think blogs are very interesting tools and ways of
communication. I think using a blog can be educational,
entertaining, or just something to do. For education I think
blogs open up communication between student and teacher.
Only so much can be discussed during class time and I know
sometimes I have trouble gathering my thought on the spot.
Blogs give students time to organize their thoughts and be
expressive without having to deal with people’s facial
expression or body language, which can be discouraging or
negative. If nothing else, blogs can help people verbally
share. I don’t think it is a waste of time because, today
is all about technology and computers. Students need to be
able to effectively navigate and express themselves through
different avenues on the web. Blogs are a great and simple
idea for that.
The ideas in ch. 6 seem to focus mainly on communication,
teaching, and learning between students through the
internet. I could see myself having my students set up
“wiki” accounts and present their research like that
instead of just having them put it on paper, where I would
be the only one the information is shared with. I think it
would improve the efforts put forth in research if you knew
everybody in the world could read your research findings.

I agree with you completely. I know there have been times where I was not able to speak in class because I could not get my thoughts together. Nevertheless I was able to post successful emails to the teacher about my concerns after I had gathered my thoughts. I think that blogs can be very useful in the effect that they allow students to express themselves without feeling humiliated and the students are thus put in a more comfortable environment in which more learning can take place.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that communication is an essential tool in education and technology and the examples in chapter six show teachers how technologies that are used in game systems can be supplemented in educatational activities which I feel that teachers should utilize in their curriculem because this is what attracts students attention. And if they are having fun they learn to enjoy the educational experience and process.
